Aftercare

Tattoos are either bandaged with second skin bandages or cling wrap. There are different aftercare instructions depending on what type of bandage is used.

Second Skin Bandage

-WASH YOUR HANDS BEFORE TOUCHING ANY PART OF YOUR TATTOO

-Leave bandage on for 3 days (Dark liquid will pool under the bandage.  This is excess pigment and lymphatic fluid.  It is part of your body’s healing process and totally normal and will not harm your tattoo.)

-Remove by stretching the bandage at the edges

-Wash off all fluid that has built up with mild soap (Soft Soap, Dial, Dr. Bronners or any other mild unscented soap), warm water and your finger tips.

-After the bandage is removed wash the tattoo daily and apply a SMALL amount of unscented white lotion (Lubriderm, Aveeno, Eucerine)  The purpose of lotion is to keep your skin from cracking and relieve itchiness.  DO NOT OVER MOISTURIZE.

-Continue moisturizing the area until shininess in the area has gone down and your skin texture has returned to normal

-Initial healing period is generally 2-3 weeks and your skin should regain its regular elasticity and texture in approx. 1-2 months

AFTERCARE DON’TS!!!!!

-DO NOT follow instructions from any other person besides your artist

-DO NOT soak the area until ALL flakiness and scabs have healed:  NO baths, pools, hot tubs, swimming

-Dishwashing:  wear gloves if tattoo is in

an area that would come in contact with

water (wrist, fingers,hands, etc.)

-NO sun exposure for 2 weeks

-DO NOT put sunblock on your tattoo in an attempt to circumvent this.  Sunblock contains many irritants and will cause adverse reactions while healing.  After your tattoo is healed, sunblock safe and encouraged.

-DO NOT itch, pick or scratch at your healing tattoo.  To alleviate itching, wash and moisturize.
